Rabbi Shmuley Boteach: America's $2 Billion a Year to Egypt Hinges on Its Peace With Israel

I am thrilled that Egypt has now held its first free election for president. Let me further say that I disagree completely with those who oppose the Arab Spring and say that better the devil dictator you know then the Islamist radical you don't know. Go tell a father whose son has been brutalized in prison by Mubarak or whose daughter has been killed by Kaddafi that they should hush because it could still get worse.

I have been a passionate and vocal supporter of the Arab Spring and began speaking out against the suppression of all Arab rights years before it happened. I have a friend in Los Angeles, the writer and marketing guru David Suissa, who showed me an idea about 12 years ago called "Free the Four Hundred Million." Its goal was to have the Jewish community emerge as the leading voice against the brutalization of our Arab brothers and sisters under Arab dictatorships. I began writing columns then because of how much this initiative spoke to me and how fully I wanted to participate in having the Jewish community, especially join in the chorus to protect and safeguard Arab life. After all, it is the Hebrew Bible that declares so emphatically, in its very first chapter, that every human being is created equally in the image of G-d. So when the Arab Spring finally arrived, I fought bitterly against those who were more worried about what might emerge through Arab democratization than they were concerned for the suffering of Arab citizens under a whole collection of despots.

Having said all that, the emerging Arab democracies must obviously take responsibility for the people they elect and the consequences of their actions. The people of Gaza tragically elected the terrorists of Hamas to represent them and are suffering immeasurably under its tyrannical rule.

The same must now apply to Egypt. I extend to the new President Mohamed Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood every good wish in presiding over his people as a just and righteous head of state. I hope that he will back away from extremist rhetoric and deeds of some of his Muslim Brotherhood colleagues. I believe that he should be given the opportunity to demonstrate that he is a moderate, dedicated to the rule of law, leading Egypt toward the community of free and civilized governments. I believe he should also be afforded the opportunity to demonstrate his commitment to Egypt's peace treaty with Israel.

But should the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt continue, as has already begun, to call for a closer bond with America's arch-enemy Iran, and a "rethinking" of the peace treaty with Israel and the Camp David accords, then I believe the United States must cease to fund the $2 billion a year military aid commitment to Egypt. I join Congressmen Allen West and Joe Walsh in rightly pointing out that this huge sum, paid annually since the presidency of Jimmy Carter, was designed to support and sustain Egypt's peace treaty with Israel. Any Egyptian retreat from that commitment must be met with an immediate American cessation of military aid to Egypt. We are not here to fund the Muslim Brotherhood. We are here to assist nations that are committed to peaceful coexistence and democracy.

Let me clarify something about the Arab's democractic elections. As I said, I support them fully and oppose all those who would prefer Kissingerian realpolitik in which the United States is prepared to prop up dictators in order to maintain order and regimes that are (somewhat) friendly to the United States. This nation either believes in democracy or it does not. We cannot betray our values. America must serve as the world's foremost voice supporting the Arab Spring and a commitment to the protection of Arab rights and life.

But neither can we forget that even Hitler was elected democratically. Democracy without a legitimate constitution and a Bill of Rights, especially protecting the rights of minorities, can become a very scary thing. What you get is a tyranny of the majority. So the United States, as the world's foremost democracy and sole superpower, must insist that elected regimes be restrained by a constitution that safeguards against a gravitation toward tyranny.

I was always of the opinion that the United States should have insisted that Iraq sign a peace treaty with Israel before we withdrew. We had every right to do so. It was our blood and treasure that created Iraq's democracy and the last thing the Middle East needs is another Arab country that scapegoats Israel for its woes.

This is bad not only for Middle East peace but especially for the Arabs. How does any Arab citizen who has no job, cannot read the truth in a newspaper, and is oppressed by his government benefit from hearing that all his problems are caused by the Jews?

In my district where I am running for Congress we have one of the largest Arab-American populations in the country. They see my opponent Bill Pascrell as their champion and came out in huge number to help him defeat his Democractic challenger, Congressman Steve Rothman.

But why is Pascrell their champion? I can, as yet, find no record of meaningful support of the Arab Spring, no condemnations of Arab dictators who slaughter their people. I know of no denunciations from Pascrell against honor killings of young Arab women or Pascrell standing up for the rights of gay people in Arab lands.

No, it appears that what makes Pascrell an Arab champion arguably lies in his signing of a notorious letter that condemned Israel for its blockade of Gaza and Hamas, and his support for Imam Muhammad Katanani of Paterson whom the INS has been trying to deport after lying on a visa application about being arrested by Israel for being a member of, and recruiting for, Hamas. (For the record I have said that if Katanani publicly condemns Hamas for their terrorism and sworn determination to eradicate Israel I would join Congressman Pascrell in fighting for Katanani to remain in the U.S. We have also called Imam Katanani several times to meet with him and visit his mosque but have not heard back).

But surely it would help Arabs more to have a political representative be one of the foremost supporters of the Arab Spring rather than finding fault with Israel for implementing a necessary blockade.

It is my belief that voters will look past the simple expectations in this race. I am the candidate of Arab freedom and aspiration.

News Press Release Creates Moral Panic In The Society

An article printed in a newspaper published through news press release states that there was a time when a printed word in the newspaper was held sacrosanct. Now, the competition is driving the media to give a new meaning to the everyday events by twisting the facts. Stephan Cohen?s moral panic model explains the methods used by the media top press release sites to exaggerate and distort the event. Moral panic refers to an exaggerated reaction given by the media or people to a particular event. The overreaction leads to exaggerated the seriousness of the event. The people or the group, social deviants who are targeted by the News Press Release driven media for causing the harm in the society are called folk devils, says Cohen.

Moral panics created by the media news press release backed by interest groups and pressure groups are always looking to create an impact on the social and political institutions.

In the instances such as drug taking, the hippie movement, pro-development lobbies and animal rights, the participants generated heated debate in the society as well as brought about legal and institutional reforms. However in some cases, the long lasting impact of the paid press release distribution reportage was neither felt nor seen. Eg. The introduction of Spinning Jenny or starting point of industrialization when machines were considered a bad omen or evil did not last long.

The second aspect of scrutiny is did it establish laws, agencies, groups, movements to further the cause reported by top press release sites or moral panic created? The answer to this question lies on two issues: 1. Social change 2. Creating institutions or laws that will substantially alter the existing socioeconomic balance of the society. In some cases, moral panic created by news press release brings about a social change eg. Drug abuse. It has led to the establishment of new laws and new ways of policing mechanism. The moral panic has also made government agencies react and rejig their style of functioning. The recent example can be of war on terror reported by top press release sites. Its impact on people is huge and government agencies have established a series of institutions and laws to tackle terrorists, who righteously claim to be fighting for their own sectarian causes.

Third, changes in normative and informative structures which comes in due to moral panics created by the online press release distribution media. In this, we need to look at the response given to an incident or an idea by the societal structures. If the moral panic holds on and changes the existing equilibrium then we can safely say moral panic will transform the structures. Example: anti-abortion reportage. While conservative lobbies have created a moral panic about the issue, the people and the authorities at large have not taken given in and the moral panic has failed to rigidify the moral boundaries.

The fourth question is about the transformation that moral panics bring about in the society. It has been observed that moral panic does impact the society in some way or the other. The degree of change may differ from event to event, distributed by top press release sites and it does seek to regulate the human response by repeating the same media news, laws, stories by means of which the social stability is perceived to be disturbed.

Financial Woes? Check Out This Great Article For Personal ...

If you have trouble maintaining and balancing a traditional checkbook, look into doing it digitally. Whether you are most comfortable using a web site, a software program, or a mobile app, you can find the tools you need to manage expenses, figure interest, create a savings plan and follow a budget.

You can increase your money by saving up the coins that you collect in your pockets. Use your change to buy lottery tickets or small items you need. You can also take your coins to a change machine once you have a jar full of pennies.

If you don?t feel comfortable selling, don?t do it. If your stock is performing well, hold off on making any moves. You can watch your stocks that aren?t doing as well in the meantime.

Clearing your house of older, unused items is a great way to earn a bit of extra money. Also, talk to neighbors to find out some of the items that they would like to sell. You can be as entrepreneurial as you want during a garage or yard sale.

Remember to do your taxes at a time that is right for your personal situation. If you know you have a refund coming, file as soon as possible. Those who owe money should wait closer to April 15th to file.

What about a credit card with rewards? Those who pay their credit card debt off fully should definitely consider this. Rewards cards are a great way to earn cash back, air miles, and save on other expenses as well. Think about the type of rewards that would benefit you the most and compare them.

If a family member is looking to purchase an item, but it costs too much for them to buy on their own, they might be able to convince the family to chip in. Items such as a bigger TV that the whole family will enjoy, should be a part of family discussions about the budget, and children should be included in the conversation.

To keep your finances in check it is important to avoid going into to debt with credit cards. Always think twice and maybe even a third time before charging anything on your credit card. Think about the length of time a particular purchase will take in order to be paid. If it will take you in excess of one month to fully pay and the item is something you can live without anyway, leave it in the store.

Many people spend a significant amount of money trying to win the lottery. Instead of doing this, the money should be channeled to serious investments. This is a better option because it will grow over time versus being wasted on a gamble.

Although it takes some foresight and a willingness to sacrifice convenience, you?ll find it does save you money to make use of only the ATMs operated by your bank or other financial institution. Financial institutions have heavy monthly and per-transaction fees if you use other ATMs, and those can build up fast.

Buying a home can actually save you a lot of money. Yes, you?ll have to pay the mortgage and utility bills each month; however, you?ll eventually pay off the home If you pay monthly rent, you will never have anything to show for your money.

The easiest way to grow your own wealth is to live below your means. By developing proper spending procedures, you will begin to save money for the future. Your income should always exceed your expenses.

Keep at three months income in this kind of fund. Simply invest ten percent of each paycheck into a high yield account regularly.

To effectively manage your personal finances, make sure that you utilize tax planning. Consider investment opportunities offered by your employer to invest pre-tax dollars in qualified plans. Keep money that is pre-tax for medical bills, etc. You should also use 401k matching programs your employer offers to employees. Putting your money away for retirement or medical costs is a much wiser use of funds than spending it on gadgets, after all.

You could give homemade presents for Christmas to save money. You can save hundreds of dollars around the holidays by reducing spending at department stores. Think of creative ways to cut costs, and show your friends and family your artistic side.

If you can identify the information in this article that applies to your situation, you can use it to organize your finances and deal with whatever situation you are in. It may take some time to improve your finances, but even small steps will help, and you may even find you sleep a little better at night!

Credit Card Tips For When You Travel

Having a proper understanding of how something works is absolutely essential before you begin using it. Credit cards are no different. If you haven?t learned a thing or two about what to do, what to avoid and how your credit affects you, then you need to sit back, read the remainder of this article and get the facts.

When it comes to credit cards, always try to spend no more than you can pay off at the end of each billing cycle. By doing this, you can help to avoid high interest rates, late fees and other such financial pitfalls. This is also a great way to keep your credit score high.

Take advantage of the fact that you can get a free credit report yearly from three separate agencies. Make sure to get all three of them, so that you can be sure there is nothing going on with your credit cards that you may have missed. There may be something reflected on one that was not on the others.

When making purchases with your credit cards you should stick to buying items that you need instead of buying those that you want. Buying luxury items with credit cards is one of the easiest ways to get into debt. If it is something that you can live without you should avoid charging it.

Be sure to limit the number of credit cards you hold. Having too many credit cards with balances can do a lot of harm to your credit. Many people think they would only be given the amount of credit that is based on their earnings, but this is not true.

You have read a lot here today about how to avoid common mistakes with credit cards, and also the best ways to use them wisely. Although there is a lot of information to learn and remember, this is a good starting point for making the best financial decisions that you can.

About Home Improvements | Real Estate Market Investments

For a unique and highly on-trend look, consider hanging flocked wallpaper on a large focal wall or in the main living area of your home or apartment. This type of wall covering adds texture, color, and style to any room, but is especially ideal for homes without children or in master bedrooms.

When doing a DIY home improvement project, put safety first. Make sure you wear protective equipment such as a hard hat and goggles when needed. Use power tools (especially ones you are not familiar with) with extreme caution. Read the directions and ask for help when needed. Home improvement stores are a great resource of information.

Pile your home improvement lumber behind your couch! Don?t have a place to store your long pieces of lumber while you?re working on a project? Just pile it neatly behind your couch and no one will ever know it?s there. You?ll keep it dry, safe, and ready for the next time you are inspired!

If you need fencing that is both affordable and versatile, opt for a wooden fence. You can choose from a variety of wood types to find the most appropriate material for your particular climate and moisture levels. Wooden fencing is very diverse and can easily be stained to one of many natural-looking colors.

When you are selecting a paint color for your home, be sure to make use of a light box or the sample cards at the hardware store. Many paint colors appear different under natural lighting, fluorescent lighting (common in most retail establishments), and incandescent lighting. You will be happier with your final choice if you make sure the color is what you expect once you take it home.

If a slamming screen door has your nerves rattled, apply a pearl-sized dab of silicone caulking on the areas of the doorjamb where the door usually hits the hardest. After allowing the silicone to dry for about three or four hours, you will immediately notice a difference in the way the door shuts.

Hang your pickle jars up by their necks! Well, really by their lids. Jars you would normally discard make great storage containers. To organize them tack the lids in a line under your shelves or cupboards. Fill the jars and screw them in place to make see through storage for small items like screws, pencils, pens, whatever!

The saying ?Good fences make good neighbors? isn?t highly repeated for no reason. A great home improvement project is to build a fence around your property. Not only will this increase your property value but it will also give you an additional sense of security and some additional privacy, not to mention they tend to help with neighborly relations.

Now that you have gathered the knowledge that is needed to complete home projects, gather the tools that you need to get going. If you find that you are stuck at some point of your project, take the time to re-read the information from this article to see if you can find the solution to the problem.

It may need more budget than the above mentioned improvements but one of the best ways to improve your home is to add a kitchen extension. Kitchens are the place where family mostly gather and it can be the first place that should be improved but when space is an issue no matter how many times you redecorate, only increasing the size will make a real difference.

Iola's Christian Reads: Review: Coming Home by Karen Kingsbury

Ashley is planning her father's seventieth birthday party, and has the idea of each child writing a letter to him and contributing towards a family scrapbook. (Nice idea. Wasn't that what her mother did for them all before she died? Moving right along? ) So, Ashley calls each of her siblings to invite their families to a surprise barbecue at the Baxter homestead (giving us a nice segue into the information dump of their personal histories). Dayne and Katy will be flying in from LA, and Erin and Sam are going to make the drive from Texas. Erin is pleased to be Coming Home, because the birth mother of three of her adoptive children is out of prison and wanting visitation rights, a touchy subject that she wants to discuss with brother Luke in person.

The first half of Coming Home: A Story of Unending Love and Eternal Promise is like a composite episode of TV series 'Lost' - 22 episodes condensed into one, a roller coaster of emotion, reliving the highlights and tragedies of the early Baxter stories. Although Kingsbury does a good job of reviewing the personal histories of each character, those stories are so extensive that I don't know how easy it would be to keep up with all the characters without having read a good number of the preceding books.

Anyone who has read all the Baxter books is going to find the first half of Coming Home very repetitive (although that does make it a quick read, for anyone who doesn?t want or need to relive the relationship problems of each of the Baxter siblings). I also found much of the backstory to be overly contrived: couples going for a walk and talking about how they got together, as though they didn?t know that.

But, of course, it wouldn't be a Kingsbury novel if everything went right. While the first half of Coming Home dragged with all the repetition, the second half contained the trademark Kingsbury emotion, as a tragedy pulls the Baxter family together and tests their faith as never before. It sounds corny, and it was, but it brought tears to my eyes even as I reminded myself that these are not real people (well, I hope they are not. After all, the last four books have been loosely based on Kingsbury?s daughter, so who knows).

With its themes of faith, life, death and heaven, I?m sure Coming Home will speak to many people. Kingsbury has the gift of being a word in season to many people through her writing, and I commend her for that. But personally, my Kingsbury season is over.

Overall, this was a good novella that was uncomfortably stretched to novel-length through the addition of a lot of repetitive and unnecessary backstory, and a cheesy ending that just made me thankful it was over.

How to Budget Fast and Easy: The 5 Steps to Success - ECONTENTZ

Some of the most frequently asked personal finance questions during this difficult economy revolve around ?how to budget?, ?how to make a budget? and ?how to live on a tight budget?. Budgeting your money successfully is crucial to flourishing in any type of economy, much less a tough one. There is a common misconception that good budgeting depends upon fancy forms, financial expertise, software programs and solely on one?s income. All of these false notions completely circumvent the only true goal of any personal budget: Getting the most value for each of your hard-earned dollars.

Those misguided beliefs above are the key reasons why many people are much worse off than they should be, regardless of income levels or familiarity with financial software. There are many people who are much ?better off? with a lower income and a simple budget form than those with great salaries and top-notch computer programs. These successful folks are the ones who have learned the secret: Keenly stretch your dollars without sacrificing quality or ?good living?. This is the foundation for our budgeting method and it is the best method. It is the most effective method because it combines the three critical budgeting elements: Cost-cutting without sacrifice, timing your income/expenses and simple, accurate recordkeeping.

We have been successfully managing a household budget for nearly 30 years and have survived many unforeseen ?bumps and bruises? along the way. During that time, we paid off our mortgage eight years early, sent two children through college, managed to save a good deal of money and maintained a nice standard of living. There were no magic tricks involved, just common sense, a few simple forms that we developed (see below) and a little effort. We have read countless ?How to Budget? books and articles over the years and while a select few were beneficial, the majority we simply dismissed out of hand.

Unfortunately, most budget or personal finance ?experts? approach cost-cutting from the standpoint of scaling back on items and niceties as a first choice, as opposed to a last resort, as it should be. One author for a popular financial web site even suggested eating a sandwich or a snack before going out to dinner because you would be less hungry and therefore saving some dollars. Taking this ?logic? just a step further, why not just stay home and save even more? It is this type of lazy journalism and advice that keeps people meandering on the path to mediocrity. We had a good chuckle and moved on.

There is a Better Way?

The Dining Out Example:

The basic idea behind going out to dinner is to escape your stresses for a bit, have fun, relax, enjoy a change of scenery and forget about cooking and doing dishes for the evening. If you are going into it overly concerned about the financial aspect, you are nullifying the underlying relaxation intent. Our approach for ?cutting back? on dining out expenses is quite the opposite: Cut only the bill, not the quality or quantity of dinner items. How so? By using Restaurant.com, anyone can cut their dining bill by 60% every day and up to 92% on special days. That is paying 8 cents on the dollar. This is a much more effective approach and no one needs to worry about filling up on pretzels on the way to the restaurant.

While well-intentioned, it is this narrow, defeatist assertion of the author and many like-minded peers that we reject. Cutting back on products, services and enjoyment to save money is not getting ahead, it is trading off. And trading off is not the path to living better. We fully support frugality, with the added feature that you can be frugal AND attain a higher quality of living simultaneously. Certainly you shouldn?t waste money on items which return little value but nor should you unnecessarily deprive yourself of the fruits of your labor. Break free from the antiquated ?You can?t have your cake and eat it too? crowd. A cake has only one purpose and the trick is to find the cheapest high-quality ?baker?.

It is this simple dining out example upon which our entire budgeting principle is based: Why spend more for something when you don?t have to? We take it to an extreme however and raise the question to: Why spend MUCH more for something when you don?t have to?

Much like visiting the local market and discovering that Joe is selling a bag of apples for 10 dollars while John is selling the same bag for 3 dollars, the choice is simple. This ?supplier-replacement cost-cutting technique? is the backbone of our budget plan. Accordingly, we highlight similarly discounted deals in many areas of consumer spending. That is our philosophy and this is reflected throughout our site and specifically in our Budget Cutters section. The prices are 50%-90% off of retail on many purchases, bills and expenses that people deal with every day. Furthermore, in many cases, the ?3 dollar apples? are of higher quality than those in the 10 dollar bag. This is the ?secret? to getting ahead.

Our mindset and methodology on how to budget are clear:

1) Slash costs.

2) Maintain quality.

3) Pocket the difference.

The old adage is true: ?A penny saved is a penny earned?. The real goal though is to multiply the benefits of that adage over the course of time into ?Thousands of dollars saved are thousands of dollars earned?, while increasing your standard of living and net worth.

How to Budget: Step by Step Instructions:

Note: All of the forms referenced are freely available on our web site, along with sample completed forms.

Step 1: Find a quiet spot, relax, clear your mind and rid yourself of all of the over-complicated, force-fed convoluted advice that you have received over the years. Successful personal budgeting is easy and enjoyable, particularly the end result.

Gather all of your current information regarding income, debts, recurring expenses and discretionary (fun, entertainment) spending. This can be handwritten on a piece of scrap paper or with a collection of paystubs, bills, bank and credit card statements. To keep matters simple, use your after tax (net) income for purposes of using our forms. If you have savings, insurance or other expenses deducted from your paycheck, add those amounts back in to figure your net income. This will be your true net income, those ?deducted? expenses will be listed in another area of your worksheet. Enter all of your data in the appropriate area of the Budget column on your Budget Form. This is a simple 3 column form with the headings: ?Actual?, ?Budget? and ?Variance?. Do not be disheartened or discouraged if the results appear pessimistic at this point. Your only goal at this stage is to be certain that you have all of your items listed.

Note: Steps 2 and 3 are performed only when using our budget plan for the first time. Thereafter, it is simply a 3-step process.

Step 2: This is the most critical and the most overlooked step by many people. It is the step which differentiates our plan from the majority of others which emphasize cutting your quality of life to save a buck. Remember the theme: ?Cut only your costs, not your enjoyment?. This crucial area requires some upfront effort and will be well worth the time. Our Budget Cutters section will be an enormous help. In this step you will permanently cut the ?fat? (overpaying) and this is the foundation upon which all of your future budgeting success depends. As you discover big savings on the payouts that you have already been making, this money will fall to the ?bottom line?, your pocket?where it belongs. Take your time and review the deals that we have listed, as well as any deals that you may find on your own.

When you have good estimates for your cost-reduced budget figures, enter these figures in the New Budget column on the Comparison Shop Form. This is a simple 3 column form with the headings: ?New Budget?, ?Original Budget? and ?Variance?. Enter the information from Step 1 in the Original Budget column and figure the variances. This will illustrate your newfound savings by category.

Note: This step may take some time before you have whittled down every one of your expense categories. Do not fret, use your best estimate at this point and adjust your figures as you move through later months. If you are in a dire hurry to get your budget done immediately, skip Steps 2 and 3 for now and revisit them later. Bear in mind the importance however, as this is the step which puts money back into your pocket.

Step 3: Adjust your budget and re-apply your newfound savings to some of your critical categories: Debt (particularly credit card debt), savings accounts and ?fun? spending. These figures are entered in the New Budget column of the Budget Readjustment Form. This is a simple 3 column form with the headings: ?New Budget?, ?Original Budget? and ?Variance?. Example: If you have been making only the minimum payments on your credit cards, increase these payments immediately for the sake of your long term financial health. Credit card interest is a killer and the longer these debts exist, the more damage it will do to your cash flow. Equally as important, comparison shop your current cards for better deals concerning interest rates and cash-back options. Enter your changes in the New Budget column. The goal here is to maintain virtually the same bottom line after you have readjusted your categories. These are now your official budget figures.

Step 4: At the conclusion of the first month, enter your actual spending in the Actual column of the Actual vs Budget Form and your newly budgeted figures in the Budget column of the form and figure your variances. This form is identical to the one in Step 1. This is your report of how well you performed for the month. Use this first month as your stepping stone for the future, with steady progress as your goal.

Step 5: This is the step that ties it all together: The Weekly Budget Form. This is a simple 3 column form with the headings: ?Actual?, ?Budget? and ?Variance?, broken down by week. This form will be an immeasurable help in planning the timing of your bills and income. This form is completed much in the same manner as the others but is organized by week and due dates to ensure that your budgeting process will flow without any shortfalls in funds. Before the month begins, fill in all of your Budget data (according to your due dates) in the Budget column of the Weekly Budget Form.

The key here is to make certain that the figure labeled Gain or (Loss) for the month (at the bottom of the form) in the budget matches the figure labeled Balance in the budget column of your monthly Budget Form. It is imperative that these two figures are in sync before the month begins. At the completion of each week, fill in your actual data in the Actual column. When the month is complete, the actual and budget figures on the last line of the Weekly Budget Form should match the actual and budget figures on the last line of the Monthly Budget vs Actual Form. You will now have completed reports on a weekly and monthly basis for the month just ended.

Rescuing a Rescuer: Lifelong Advocate and Pets are Homeless ...

Dear Life With Dogs,

I am contacting you in regard to a very dear friend of mine, Kim Mathews, who currently resides in Michigan. For years, she has worked tirelessly to find forever homes for abandoned, abused, & unwanted dogs. She is a fosterer herself, & has 3 GSD?s, along with 5 beautiful felines, & 1 tortoise.

Sadly, hard times have befallen her. Despite the fact I am on the other side of the Atlantic & reside in the United Kingdom, she has been a dear friend to me for a long time. Her animals are her life, & upon coming across your wonderful site, & having nearly lost all faith in humanity, you?re simply my last resort in helping my dear friend, or at least sending a message out on your site to say; fosterers need homes too.

It is with sadness that I write, with so little time left, that Kim, & her ?furrbabies? (as we like to refer to them), have been pushed from pillar to post over the past year in trying to find a ?forever home? for herself & her son. She is now registered as disabled due to ongoing knee problems, which she has had numerous surgeries on.

She finally found the courage & scraped every last penny she had for her, her grown son Shawn, & her pets to squeeze into a small RV & drive to Michigan, where a job was waiting for her son.

The RV, with one last ?poof?, practically collapsed into a heap on their arrival, never to be moved again. Thankfully they reached their destination safely, but it was simply more agonizing pressure & strain emotionally & mentally on Kim, trying to find a ?forever home? for her pets. The RV was only meant as a temporary fix, to get them out of the state they were in when living (or sadly not living in) in Illinois.

Days have turned into weeks, and due to unforeseen circumstances, they must be out of the RV (which is unmovable & ready for the scrap heap) by this coming Sunday, the 24th.

Kim is facing the possibility of living in a car with 6 animals. My heart is breaking for her, and for someone living so far away, I feel so incredibly helpless. She has no internet access other than the little she is able to use on her phone ? which is very basic ? and is unable to use the necessary full search engines to find somewhere to live. Her son is at work all day, getting money together to find them all a suitable forever home, and Kim is unable to leave the animals in the RV during the day to look for necessary places to rent, or use an internet cafe or library.

It saddens me that, over all the years she has helped others and found dogs their forever homes, ?friends? have turned their backs on her in her time of desperate need. She is truly struggling to find a place that will allow animals ? landlords just keep saying no when they hear that she has pets.

Fosterers need homes too. If anyone out there can help Kim find a place to live with her son & animals, or temporarily look after her animals until she can find a suitable place to live, please, I implore you, reach out and help this true friend to animals.

Thank you dearly for taking the time to read. You?re my last resort. Her last resort.

Yours faithfully,
Laura Williams

New Egypt president has tight window on economy

CAIRO (Reuters) - Egypt's new president has a window of opportunity to pull the economy from the brink of disaster, but he will have to chart a careful path to convince a host of deeply skeptical players at home and abroad that his is a government they can trust.

After winning the country's first freely contested election for head of state, the Muslim Brotherhood's Mohamed Mursi, 60, brings with him strongly free-market policies that would delight investors were it not for Egypt's daunting economic challenges and fraught politics.

He also brings a detailed economic plan meticulously drawn up over the course of a year, supported by the Brotherhood's well organized political machine.

However, to spur growth and win over investors to trust Egypt for the long term, Mursi will have to restore stability to a country rocked by sometimes violent political turmoil in the 16 months since an uprising forced Hosni Mubarak from power.

To do this, he will have to build up a working relationship with generals who stripped the presidency of many of its powers in the week before the result of the presidential election was announced on Sunday.

He also faces the prospect of a new constitution to replace the current interim constitution which is vague on the full extent of presidential powers.

But analysts say the popular mandate handed to Mursi in the election makes it harder for political opponents to obstruct reforms he initiates.

"There is definitely a window of opportunity. I think there is goodwill out there because of the nature of the result, because it was a clear result," said one Western diplomat.

"If we get a cabinet that is broad based and brings in good economic expertise as well as people who have credibility outside Egypt, then ... it's probably quite good news in the short term," the diplomat said.

ECONOMY ON THE BRINK

Egypt's uprising hammered the economy by chasing away tourists and foreign investors and prompting government employees to strike for higher wages. The economy contracted by 4.3 percent in the first quarter of 2011 and stagnated in the following three quarters.

The Brotherhood's economic plan relies on private Egyptian and foreign investors and the group has pledged to move fast to negotiate a loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) once it forms a government.

"We trust Egypt but, with no security, investors will flee. Change is very hard and bumpy," said Adnan Ahmed Yousef, president of the Union of Arab Banks and chief executive of Bahrain-based Albaraka Banking Group.

An army-backed interim government kept the economy on the rails since Mubarak's overthrow through a series of short-term measures that have brought the country dangerously close to fiscal collapse.

These include financing a burgeoning budget deficit by selling domestic treasury bills and bonds at steadily rising interest rates and shortening maturities.

The pile of local currency debt has built up to well over 600 billion Egyptian pounds ($99 billion) from about 500 billion pounds just before the uprising.

The borrowing has stretched the lending ability of local banks, causing the average yield on 1-year T-bills to surge to almost 16 percent, its highest in more than a decade, from 10.4 percent in January 2011.

The interim government borrowed an additional $6 billion in T-bills denominated in U.S. dollars that the new government, strapped for foreign currency, will have to repay or roll over when the first begin maturing in November.

The interim government has also drawn down foreign reserves by more than half, to about $15.5 billion, to support the currency, partly out of fear that an increase in the cost of imported goods would fuel inflation and political discontent.

The dangerously low level of reserves has left the country with less than three months of import coverage.

Brotherhood officials have said that once a new government is in place they plan to pick up from the previous government's stop-start negotiations for a $3.2 billion IMF loan.

An IMF agreement could bring further billions in aid pledged by Arab and international donors - money that Mursi's election could help unlock.

HUNDRED DAYS

The IMF has made any loan conditional on a credible program to get the country's finances under control, that the program have broad domestic political support and that Egypt line up additional financing from foreign donors.

This could take months to pull together but, with so much short-term debt coming due in the second half of the year, the clock is ticking.

"To a large extent, it depends on who they've got, who they'll bring into the cabinet, who they'll bring in as finance minister. It will take a little bit of time to get clarity," the diplomat said.

"There is still a certain lack of clarity over the distribution of powers, and the risk - you don't have parliament to offer endorsement, you have the military involved in the economy."

Since the uprising, the Brotherhood has been putting together a detailed economic and social program called al-Nahda (The Renaissance).

The program aims to shore up the new administration's support among Egyptians though a 100-day campaign in five areas that yield immediate social benefits.

These include rapid measures to get the country's notoriously choked traffic flowing more efficiently, restore security and clean up piles of rubbish that have long blighted Egypt's streets.

Other measures would ensure that bottlenecks disrupting availability of subsidized bread, petrol and butane cooking gas are removed. With energy subsidies eating up as much as a quarter of the state budget, this could prove expensive.

The Brotherhood says it will gradually decrease subsidies on energy products used by industry.

It has said it will target subsidies on products such as gasoline and diesel so that they are directed to the poor.

The Scarlet Manor

The Scarlet manor looks as if it was a normal mansion where people of luxury lives. This isn't wrong, but I wouldn't say that it's residents are....people. They appear human, walk, talk, and act like them, but they are most certainly not. The Scarlet residence are Vampires. They're a family consisting of brothers and sisters who lives with maids and butlers. It is not sure if the helpers in their home are humans or vampires, but we can assume the worst. Only a few leaves the manor and it's often the butler. Every now and then the maid would leave as well, but it's not likely. Whatever happens in this manor, stays in the manor.

GOP lawmakers targeted for gay marriage support

David Handschuh / Pool / Getty Images file

Couple Ray Durand (L) and his partner Dale Shields kiss while having their picture taken after their wedding ceremony at the Manhattan City Clerk's office on the first day that New York State's Marriage Equality Act went into effect on July 24, 2011 in New York City.

By Miranda Leitsinger, msnbc.com

One year after New York lawmakers voted to make same-sex marriage legal in the state, opponents of gay marriage are pledging to unseat the Republicans whose support was key to the law's passage, saying they want to send a message to other legislators that there are ?consequences? to their votes.

The National Organization for Marriage, which opposes gay marriage,?says it is funneling $2 million into the state?to oust three state senators who voted to support the legislation. All three, Sens. Roy McDonald, Stephen Saland and Mark Grisanti,?are facing primary challenges. A fourth GOP senator, Jim Alesi, already has said he won?t seek a ninth term due to local opposition over his pro-gay marriage stance.

Alesi, 64, and his three fellow GOP senators joined 29 Democrats on June 24, 2011, to give the bill a 33-29 victory. Though Alesi told msnbc.com he was sad to leave office, he said the vote on gay marriage was "irrevocable" and decried the actions of NOM as "purely revenge" and "blind hatred."

"The focal point of running against good candidates (his three fellow GOP senators) ... is nothing more than a bag of rocks that they?re carrying around and they?ll have to carry them for a long, long time because marriage isn?t going anywhere, it?s here,? he said.

Brian Brown, executive director of NOM, doesn't shy away from the fact his group is hoping to intimidate wavering lawmakers into opposing gay marriage.

?The message is clear, that supporting same-sex marriage is a losing issue, not a winning issue,? Brown told msnbc.com. ?You could lose your career over supporting same-sex marriage.?

He also doesn't buy the argument that gay marriage is a settled issue in New York,?even though a?May 2012 poll by Quinnipac University found the state's voters support same-sex marriage 54 to 37 percent.

"If we don?t get a vote this year, we?re going to work to get one next year. We?re not going away," Brown said. "I think it?s just wishful thinking to say that once you have same-sex marriage the fight?s over. It?s not."

Toward that end, NOM has spent $400,000 on issue ads, billboards, automated calls and direct mail as well as made direct donations through its New York PAC. It is planning to spend another $1.6 million to try to unseat McDonald, Saland and Grisanti as a result of their gay marriage votes.

Both McDonald and Saland?face opponents strongly opposed to gay marriage, and their contests could turn on the issue. Grisanti?also has faced criticism for his marriage vote, but his Republican opponent, Kevin Stocker,?won't say where he stands on the issue. Instead,?Stocker argues?the issue should have been put before voters, not enacted by the legislature, according to capitoltonight.com's "State of Politics" blog.

?NOM is trying to use the choke point of a Republican primary to punish people who voted ? the other way,? said Bruce Gyory, a political consultant in New York who supports gay marriage but did not work on the issue for either side. ?NOM?s strategy is to try to take advantage of the more conservative factor ?? that exists in Republican primaries and use that as an example to say to legislators in other states, ?Don?t you dare vote for this because you?ll lose.'"

But Gyory, an adjunct professor of political science at Albany-SUNY, believes that if the New York lawmakers can escape their primaries, their support for gay marriage could work to their advantage.

"If?you put it up to a general election test in these areas it would probably play to the benefit of these legislators rather than to their political detriment.?

Alesi?said NOM and the money it is pouring into the state was not a factor?in his decision not to seek re-election.?He said they were ?nowhere on the radar? in Rochester except for a billboard they put up in?a remote part of his district. He also denied that a controversial local lawsuit over a personal injury factored into his decision. What it came down to, Alesi said, is that he had a strong Republican challenger, and had determined a bloody primary wouldn?t be worth ultimately losing a Republican-held seat to a Democrat.

?As much as I could easily have won in the general election, I thought it would be very difficult to get through a primary ? where I?d have to challenge my own party,? Alesi said.

He said some of his supporters encouraged him to leave the Republican Party so his marriage vote wouldn't be such a factor, but he didn't want to do it.

Sen. Roy J. McDonald, R- Stillwater, left, talks with his Chief of Staff Patrick E. Poleto during a session of the New York State Senate at the Capitol in Albany, N.Y., Tuesday, June 14, 2011.

?I thought also that it was very important if I were going to run for re-election that I would do it as a Republican because I was a Republican when I voted for marriage equality, and at the time, I said that I think it?s important for other legislatures and other states to know that Republicans can vote for things like marriage equality," he said, noting that he had said from early on, "Republicans can vote for this and go on with their political lives.?

To that end, The New York Times reported that billionaire hedge fund manager Paul Singer will give $1 million to begin a ?super PAC? called American Unity PAC with several other Republicans. It will provide support to Republican candidates who favor same-sex marriage. Singer helped amass some $250,000 for each of the Republican New York state senators after NOM announced its efforts.

The New York primaries are in June and in September, and it remains to be seen how the three lawmakers will fare. But Alesi said he is fine with how everything turned out after his marriage vote, even though it is largely responsible for the end of his senate career

"I took the greatest vote I could have taken ... I firmly and truly believe in equality," he said, remembering that at the time of the vote he told himself, "If this is what the price is, it?s fine with me, because I can?t imagine having the opportunity to do anything this historic and this personally fulfilling again ever in my career ... I am leaving very peacefully."
